The Oakland Career Center: Reclaiming a Public Asset to Create a Center of Life-Changing Opportunity

Oakland Planning and Development Corporation (OPDC) plans to lease an abandoned, city-owned building in the heart of our neighborhood to restore it to public use as a center for career and education opportunity. The building is located at the corner of Semple and Louisa Streets in Central Oakland; it was formerly the Oakland senior center. The City of Pittsburgh has no plans to utilize this building now or in the future. OPDC will renovate the building and fit it out for our use over the next 10 – 20 years. We will bring this facility back into public use and eliminate the eyesore and blight that it has become.

OPDC will present the project before the City of Pittsburgh Zoning Board of Adjustment on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 9:20 AM. We will apply for a Change of Use approval. Please offer your support for this project by writing a letter in favor of the Change of Use. Please address your letter to Wrenna L.
