To celebrate October’s National Financial Goal Day, OPDC’s JobLinks staff kicked off a series of financial coaching events at a festive party with over 50 guests. One of three Financial Opportunity Centers in Pittsburgh, JobLinks works with clients to improve credit scores, pay down debt, and build wealth.

The goal of the party was to show folks struggling with day-to-day finances how they can get back on their feet and succeed,” said Bryan Perry, OPDC’s Assistant Director for Workforce and Strategy.

Attendees sat at festive tables decorated with candy, pumpkins—and coupons. Guests enjoyed dinner while learning about different ways to set and achieve financial goals. Shay Port, Financial Coach at JobLinks, led group discussions on easy ways to save money every day.

Throughout the evening, multiple guests shared personal success stories about working with the JobLinks staff.  “The party was a fun and informative way for clients to encourage each other by sharing updates on their progress,” Bryan added.

After dinner, partygoers filled out “Smart Goal Setting” worksheets to jumpstart their own financial plans.

“Understanding finances is so important to be able to bounce back when unexpected things happen in life.  Learning about financial literacy with Shay has really given me the knowledge to take care of things,” reported Stephanie Robinson, another JobLinks client.

The final Financial Goal Setting event for 2015 is next Thursday, December 17th at the Oakland Career Center from 5:30-7pm. The session will include light refreshments, a chance to win raffle prizes, cutting and sharing coupons, and more. Please call Shay at 412.621.3821, ext. 25 or email sport@joblinks.opdc.org and let her know you’re coming. Invite all your friends. Everyone is welcome!
